Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At 6 years old, I remember being exposed to Yoruba traditional music and others through my father, a music aficionado. When I turned 13, he got me a talking drum and had me transcribe rhythms and melodies by ear off the records.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Burna Boy, I Told Them... Miguel Zenón, Música De Las Américas Nduduzo Makhathini, In The Spirit Of Ntu These albums are my current all-time favorites because of the well-detailed compositions that showcase a diverse world and its complexities which you can hear in the rhythms, melodies, and harmonies of songs in the albums.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Ìbà” Ìbà which means homage is a special tune I wrote from a sense of paying respect to my African ancestors.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My memorable moments so far have been during the making Ìbà. Especially, the sonic designing brought about a different type of spiritual consciousness toward ancient African practices.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? My goal as an artist has always been to take my music across the world with my fellow AKÉDE.
