Artist Biography
Dampé is the genre-blending solo project of Southeast London-based producer, performer, and Rinse FM regular Joe Munday. On releases such as his 2021 EP Oil, he weaves live instrumentation, analog synths, samples, and field recordings into rhythmically inventive experimental electronic pieces and club tracks.
After moving to London, Munday became involved in the city's club scene, frequenting influential parties like FWD>> and You're a Melody. He released two EPs under his own name during the mid-2010s, and regularly booked shows and performed in the city and throughout Europe, under several different names. Making left-field house tracks as Dampé, he signed to Berlin label Dirt Crew and released the Peach Shuffle EP in March 2019. A remix of S3A's "Fever" and second EP Garden followed later in the year, as Dampé began spinning on London dance station Rinse FM on a frequent basis. In 2020, Dampé collaborated with Bristol-bred emcee Mushkilla on the garage track "Jesse James," and released his third EP, Shadwell. Opix, an experimental album co-written and co-produced remotely by British Egyptian composer Sami El-Enany and Munday while under lockdown, was released by Faith & Industry near the end of 2020. Dampé's more club-ready Oil EP appeared on Singaporean label Darker Than Wax in early 2021. ~ Paul Simpson
