About Dave Keech
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
When I was eleven, my grandfather, a retired trombonist, spoke about his life in music. The emotion with which he talked left a deep impression on me. For him, the trombone carried power, character and intent. That approach still shapes my work.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Bob Marley & The Wailers, Uprising Remastered
Jimmy Giuffre, The Train And The River
Miles Davis, Bitches Brew
My first ever album was Uprising, for its intellectual force and groove. The Train and the River revealed the beauty of improvised intimacy. Bitches Brew expanded my sense of what music could become. All three continue to shape how I hear and create.

“Tokyo (feat. Andre Espeut Quintet)”
Tokyo has become a second home to me. I wrote this track to capture the feeling of moving through the city at night: its pace, its energy and its relentless intensity. It holds the atmosphere that keeps drawing me back.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Taking my shodan kendo grading in Japan, then going straight to a jazz gig that evening. My two sensei stood at the front of the stage afterwards to tell me I had passed. They spoke little English. It did not matter.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I’d love to take the full Tokyo ensemble back to Japan and perform the music there at scale. That would feel complete.
