About Delphia
With a repertoire that includes original songs and American standards as well as '60 and '70s soul, Delphia's nuanced vocal delivery merges soul, pop, and jazz. Rebranding following a break from music, she made her recording debut as Delphia in 2018 with My Soul Inspiration: Live. It reached number 27 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart.
As a teenager, Delphia -- then performing under a different name -- appeared on Broadway, auditioned for Clive Davis and Quincy Jones, and had over a dozen of her singer/songwriter-styled songs placed on ABC's All My Children. In her early twenties, she made her SXSW festival debut and opened shows for artists including Leon Russell and Wishbone Ash. The trajectory of her music career was tragically interrupted one night when she was assaulted by a fan. Years later, in 2016, she was able to sit at a piano and work through the experience with music. Changing her name, her style, and her purpose, she re-emerged from a decade away from the public eye with performances around her base of Albuquerque, New Mexico, including some with her backing band the Deltones and some with her nine-piece Delphonic Orchestra.
Embracing themes of empowerment, her first Delphia album, My Soul Inspiration: Live (Del-Fi Records), arrived in 2018 and landed in the Top Ten of the Billboard Heatseekers chart and in the independent albums' Top 30. In 2019, she headed to the studio to record her official debut with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Madeleine Peyroux). ~ Marcy Donelson
