With his diverse, soulful, and dubbed-out productions, Dwson has been a prominent fixture in South Africa’s thriving deep house scene since his 2015 debut. Born Ashwin Julies in Cape Town in 1994, Dwson grew up in a household and neighbourhood that influenced his love for music, particularly jazz. After starting out in his teens as a DJ, Dwson eventually enrolled for a production course at the Soul Candi Institute of Music. The talented DJ/producer has since released projects under prestigious international labels like DeepWit Recordings, Just Move, Aluku, Freerange Records, and Atjazz Record Company (whose owner, Martin Iveson, is one of Dwson’s biggest inspirations), as well as South Africa’s Stay True Sounds. As showcased in his discography—from 2017’s Luna to 2019’s Bermuda and 2021’s “Freya”—Dwson’s production style ranges between downtempo, melodic house and stripped-down deep tech.
