Artist Biography
Violinist Elina Vähälä has a large repertory that emphasizes contemporary music. She performed at the 2008 Nobel Prize ceremony. Vähälä was a winner at the 1999 Young Concert Artists competition in New York, and she gave her New York debut at the 92nd Street Y that year. Her repertory is large and includes a prominent slice devoted to contemporary music; she gave world premieres of the Chamber Concerto of Aulis Sallinen and the Double Concerto of Curtis Curtis-Smith. Vähälä made her recording debut in 2013. In 2023, she issued a recording of Kalevi Aho's Violin Concerto with the Kymi Sinfonietta.
