Singer and songwriter Essosa puts a modern and personalized twist on '90s and 2000s contemporary R&B, evoking the likes of Janet Jackson, Brandy, and Kelis over productions that recall the advancements of Rodney Jerkins, Missy Elliott and Timbaland, and the Neptunes, among others. Active since the late 2010s, the London native saw her 2023 single "Waste My Time" go viral, leading to a deal with major-label Atlantic. She has since released Essie's World and Crush!, EPs issued respectively in 2024 and 2026.
