About Eyes of Love
Artist Biography
Experimental pop band Eyes of Love are headed by New York-based songwriter Andrea Schiavelli. The group's 2018 debut album, End of the Game, features tightly wound, complex arrangements that are both playful and delicate.
Born in Los Angeles, Schiavelli became a fixture of the Brooklyn indie music scene during the early 2010s. He released a limited cassette EP titled Andrea Schiavelli & the Eyes of Love in 2011, followed by a solo LP titled Another Ugly Face in 2012. He also played in lo-fi glam group Punks on Mars and garage punks Nude Beach. Souls on Fire, a cassette of demos, was released by OSR Tapes in 2015. The first official Eyes of Love release was a self-titled EP of breezy garage pop songs issued by Wharf Cat Records in 2016. On this release, the group included guitarist/vocalist Christina Schneider (CE Schneider Topical, Locate S,1), bassist Gary Canino (Rips) guitarist/bassist Tyler Evans (Ed Askew), and drummer Jo Miller Gamble (Blanche Blanche Blanche, Big French). After the EP was released, the group's ever-shifting lineup included Palberta's Lily Konigsberg and the Cradle's Sammy Weissberg and Paco Cathcart. The group's sound became much more sophisticated, while Schiavelli's songs retained their smoothness and poignancy. This lineup recorded End of the Game live in the studio without overdubs, and the album was released by Wharf Cat in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson
