Under the name Fences, Seattle musician Chris Mansfield writes emotionally vivid songs that straddle indie folk and downcast, melodic pop. He rose to critical acclaim with his eponymous 2010 debut, then signed with Elektra to release his sophomore album, 2014's Lesser Oceans, which included the breakout single, "Arrows," featuring Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. In the coming years, Mansfield further diversified Fences' sound, leaning into unique collaborations with artists like Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Billy Strings. After 2023's Bright Soil, he worked with producer and multi-instrumentalist Jonah Marc Levine on the 2025 set Prairie Tremens.
