In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
An old mandolin player and I sat by a crackling fire and spoke to each other with music not words. I was six years old, I remember so clearly I decided at that moment this is what I wanted to do with my life; communicate with people through music. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Kula Shaker, Pilgrim's Progress
Nick Drake, Pink Moon
Son Lux, Brighter Wounds
Brighter Wounds: the unrelenting attention to detail is unparalleled by anything else I have ever heard and is a constant source of technical inspiration.
Pink Moon: it just feels so honest and real.
Pilgrim's Progress: a companion through hard time. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“The Guard”
It was written for someone I love. Arrangement, lyrics, melody and production feel like they are a translation of how I felt. Mixed and produced by amazing people who made it more beautiful than I ever imagined: playing it live feels like flying.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
My debut headline show: people gathered in an ancient Celtic worship site that is now a beautiful small church in the heart of London. We laughed, danced, cried and sang together arriving as strangers and leaving as friends. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
My main mission is to be developing live shows that move people deeply. I also have goals centred around collaborations with artists I look up to such as alt-J, Bon Iver, Fink, Son Lux and many others I would love to learn from and create with.
