Franz Nicolay is a multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Brooklyn. Absurdly prolific and constantly working, Nicolay has been involved as a session player, arranger, collaborator, touring entity, and long-term member of countless bands, as well as maintaining an active solo career. His solo work is boldly emotional and stylistically adventurous, with arrangements full of layered keyboards, guitars, strings, horns, and vocal choruses that give life to impassioned lyrical constructs. 2010's Luck and Courage introduced his style fully formed, and 2014's To Us, The Beautiful! added a more personal lyrical stance, and 2022's New River found him embracing his musical voice after a period of personal turmoil.

Franz Nicolay has also released music as a member of The World/Inferno Friendship Society and The Hold Steady.
