About FYKE
Artist Biography
With their uplifting brand of shimmering synth rock, Los Angeles-based band Fyke shine a light on an array of social issues, focusing on positivity and spreading awareness with inspirational lyrics and glossy, pop-savvy anthems. After years on the scene in various other bands, the members got together in the mid-2010s, later signing with Universal for the release of their debut EP Nightmares. An expanded full-length soon followed and their sophomore set, Disorder, landed in 2019.
Fronted by Taiwanese vocalist Enik Lin, Fyke initially started as a trio, rounded out by guitarist Steven Delman and bassist/vocalist Mikee Fabella. Later, they recruited guitarist Justin Wright and founding drummer Abe Kim, who soon parted ways with the band and was replaced by Gerard Christian. Influenced by a wide range of artists including John Mayer, the 1975, Linkin Park, Depeche Mode, and Bring Me the Horizon, the quintet signed with Universal Music soon after and issued their debut single, "Favorite Mistake," in 2017. The buoyant pop-kissed rock anthem featured a soaring chorus, glittering synths, and an energetic beat, but the band later demonstrated that they could branch out into heavier territory on their EP Nightmares, which featured the post-hardcore cut "Sleepers." The short set was expanded in 2018 as a full-length of the same name, adding a stripped-down version of "Nightmares" and another dose of hardcore-inspired aggression with "Awake." That same year, the band kicked off a new era with the singles "Silhouettes" and "Til the End," which smoothed the hardcore edges of their debut and amplified the positivity with socially conscious lyrics devoted to spreading awareness about relatable topics such as mental health, relationships, self-image, and hope. Their sophomore LP, Disorder, arrived in July 2019 and featured guests Amber Liu of K-pop group f(x), James Lee (Lin's former Royal Pirates bandmate), and Taiwanese pop star Vanness Wu. ~ Neil Z.
