Born in Juazeiro (Bahia), Luis Galvão moved to Salvador (Bahia) as an adult, where he met Moraes Moreira and Paulinho Boca de Cantor and formed the group Os Novos Baianos in 1968. As principal lyricist, he wrote most of the band's songs (with Moreira) -- they were highly influenced by Tropicalia -- and participated in the next year's V Festival de Música Popular Brasileira (Festival of Brazilian Popular Music, TV Record, São Paulo) with "De Vera" (written with Moraes Moreira), interpreted by Os Novos Baianos. In 1997, he published the book Anos 70: Novos e Baianos and succeeded in regrouping the original formation of Os Novos Baianos for the recording of the double-live CD Infinito Circular. Luis Galvão died on October 22, 2022, at the age of 87.
Galvão has also released music as a member of Novos Baianos.
