Artist Biography
Combining whimsical electronic pop with colorful, chunky graphics that are as menacing as they are playful, Gangpol & Mit -- composer Sylvain Quément and designer Guillaume Castagné -- began working together in 2002, with Quément translating Castagné's visuals into music, or Castagné's pictures suggesting a melody to Quément. They released their first album of cartoonishly surreal music, Pièces Détachées, in 2004. The Hopelessly Sad Story of the Hideous End of the World (2007) combined speeches, lullabies, and sampled orchestra arrangements in apocalyptic fashion. Carton Park (2009) was aimed at children and featured multi-media performances. It was followed by Faits Divers (2010), a combination DVD/book set. The 1000 Softcore Tourist People Club (2011) reflected a slightly more streamlined sound. ~ Heather Phares
