In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my first musical memories is singing “Reflections” from Mulan at age 6. I was obsessed with the movie, and it was the first time I realized I could actually sing — and I haven’t stopped since.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Adele, 21 John Mayer, Continuum Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium Arcadium “Stadium Arcadium” was my dad’s favorite, we’d dance to it nonstop. “21” soundtracked my childhood and shaped my voice (I still have the piano book). “Continuum” changed my life, saw it live at MSG. All three shaped who I am as an artist.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Mista Mystery” “Mista Mystery” is one of my favorites. I wrote it in New Orleans and you can hear the city in the groove. The title came to me late one night, and when my friend Andriu played the melody, it clicked. We brought the retro vision to life in NJ.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? This one’s easy. Performing with my dad on the Central Park SummerStage for 5000 people. Getting to share that moment with big Ed, who has always been such a role model to me, is something I’ll definitely be telling my kids and grandkids.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? MANY things. We’re just getting started. That being said, one of the top things on my bucket list that’s been there forever is playing and selling out Red Rocks Amphitheater.
