Jamaican dancehall deejay Govana first built a career as a street-tough lyricist under the name Deablo. ∙ After the success of the 2017 singles “Shallow Grung” and “Gyal Clown,” he won Breakout Celebrity of the Year at the YVAs—Jamaica’s premiere viewers’ choice awards. ∙ He collaborated with Spanish-Catalan singer Bad Gyal in 2018 for their dancehall-flavored joint single, “Open the Door.” ∙ Govana’s 2018 solo performance at the renowned Reggae Sumfest helped establish him as a breakout star. ∙ Grammy Award-winning reggae upstart Koffee invited him to trade verses on the 2019 remix of the title track from her chart-topping EP, Rapture. ∙ His 2020 album, Humans and Monsters Are Not the Same, hit No. 2 on the iTunes Reggae Albums chart.
