Artist Biography
Formed in 2006 by members of the early-'90s hardcore revival, the Brooklyn-based outfit House & Parish create an atmospheric brand of indie rock that evokes the quartet's Britpop and shoegaze influences. Singer/guitarist John Herguth previously served as frontman for the Love Scene, whose Wilco-influenced sound won the group a contract with Nirvana's A&R man, Mark Kates. When the band prematurely split up in 2006, Herguth joined guitarist Jason Gnewikow (formerly of the Promise Ring), bassist Scott Winegard (ex- Texas Is the Reason), and drummer Brian Malone (ex-the Gloria Record) to form House & Parish. The group quickly entered the studio with former Rival Schools guitarist Ian Love in the producer's seat, and the resulting One, One-Thousand EP arrived in November 2007, with a full-length debut slated for the following year. ~ Andrew Leahey
