One of South Africa's most accomplished male dancers, Iain MacDonald has garnered acclaim in the leading role of such ballets as Romeo And Juliet, The Merry Widow, and Carmen as well as in shorter ballets by such leading choreographers as George Balanchine, Fokine, Goh, and MacMillan. Studying ballet with Peta Hosking from the age of ten, MacDonald continued to sharpen his skills as a student from 1986 to 1990 at the National School of the Arts. Placing first in the South African Adeline Genee Silver Trophy competition in 1990, he went on to win the international Genee competition in London the following year. Joining the State Theater Ballet Company the same year, he became the troupe's principal dancer in 1997. ~ Craig Harris
