Artist Biography
Experimental outfit Isotope 217 plays an exciting fusion of electronica, jazz, and indie rock that draws influence from Chicago’s post-rock scene (the band includes guitarist Jeff Parker and percussionist John Herndon from scene stalwarts Tortoise). Their first album, THE UNSTABLE MOLECULE, was released on Thrill Jockey in 1997, and introduced their complex, funky, atmospheric aesthetic. The album includes contributions from trumpeter Rob Mazurek and trombonist Sara P. Smith. The follow-up, UTONIAN AUTOMATIC, appeared in 1999, and 2000 saw the release of WHO STOLE THE I WALKMAN.
