Superstar rapper Travis Scott tapped emerging artists from his Cactus Jack label to form JACKBOYS, a hip-hop collective whose career kicked off with a chart-topping debut album.
• Scott launched Cactus Jack in 2017, by which time he’d established himself as a multi-platinum artist with a cult-like following of ragers, hypebeasts, and hip-hop purists alike.
• Scott signed rage rapper Sheck Wes and self-proclaimed “trap-n-b” artist Don Toliver in 2018. That same year, he featured both artists on his chart-topping third album, ASTROWORLD.
• In 2019 Scott signed rapper Luxury Tax, whose stylings are reminiscent of Scott’s signature sound.
• Riding a wave of momentum, the four artists joined forces with the label’s in-house DJ, Chase B., to release the compilation album JACKBOYS in December 2019.
• JACKBOYS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with six of the album’s seven songs landing spots on the Billboard Hot 100. Ironically, the only exception was “JACKBOYS,” a 47-second interlude.
