About Jain
Artist Biography
Building on her world-traveling background, singer-songwriter Jain creates music that brings together French techno with rhythms inspired by the musics of the Middle East and Africa. Born Jeanne Galice in 1992 in Toulouse, France, Jain moved around a lot as a child, and while in high school in the Congo she met the French electro producer Mr Flash, who encouraged her to make music that brought Arabic percussion and African rhythms into her beat-heavy mix. She eventually met other artists, including the singer-songwriter Yodelice, who brought her on tour and produced her 2015 debut EP, Hope. Her first full-length, Zanaka, followed a few months after Hope’s release, and the single “Makeba,” which Jain named in honor of the South African singer and activist Miriam Makeba, eventually became a worldwide smash, establishing Jain as an up-and-coming voice with a powerful message. Jain’s playful 2018 album Souldier and besotted 2023 full-length The Fool further expanded her artistic palette.
