Jake Ferguson is a London-based bassist, guitarist, composer, producer, and frontline activist for racial justice. With musical partner Malcolm Catto he co-founded the psychedelic, deep jazz-funk outfit the Heliocentrics. He also founded and produces Black consciousness R&B collective the Brkn Record; The Architecture of Oppression, Pt. 1, their debut album, appeared in 2021 on Mr. Bongo. Ferguson also records with the Soul Destroyers.
With Heliocentrics, he's played on and co-produced more than a dozen albums with globally acclaimed collaborators Mulatu Astatke, Orlando Julius, and others. Ferguson and Catto co-composed the scores for OST (a soundtrack for a documentary about Miller, aka Lloyd Miller & the Heliocentrics) and The Sunshine Makers. In May 2023, Legna by Gaslamp Killer with Heliocentrics appeared, and in August, Emotions Run Dry, an instrumental duo album featuring Catto, was issued by Madlib Invazion.
