About Jakob Bro
Artist Biography
With his rich, warm tone, Danish guitarist and composer Jakob Bro makes expansive, forward-thinking jazz that's atmospheric and experimental while still being grounded in tradition. A former member of Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band and Tomasz Stańko's Dark Eyes quintet, Bro established his reputation as an original voice on 2003's Daydreamer, leading a sextet that included three horn players. He led a trio on ECM's Gefion in 2015, which brought him to the attention of global audiences. 2016's follow-up Streams charted, and Bro made two outings in 2018: the studio date Returnings and the concert album Bay of Rainbows. He showcased a collaborative trio on 2021's Uma Elmo, co-billed to trumpeter Arve Henriksen and drummer Jorge Rossy, before joining saxophonist Joe Lovano for 2022's Once Around the Room: A Tribute to Paul Motian. Taking Turns, a 2014 archival recording with Lee Konitz and Bill Frisell, arrived on ECM in 2024.
