Artist Biography
Possessed of a charming naivete, Brooklyn art-punk duo Japanther makes up for limited musical chops with refreshingly engaged and conceptual live shows that employ multimedia effects, dancers, audience participation, and fearless spontaneity. Art students Ian Vanek (drums, electronics) and Matt Reilly (vocals, bass) met at New York's Pratt Institute in 2001 and immediately made a splash amongst the cultural cognoscenti, releasing several well-regarded EPs, albums, singles, and split-singles, and touring frequently. The duo have also worked on video projects, including one group collaboration featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial.
