Kansas City jazz bandleader, composer, and arranger Jesse Stone led his own band during the 1920s as well as acting as musical director and arranger for other popular ensembles. Among his best-known compositions were "Sorghum Switch," "Smack Dab In The Middle," and "Idaho." In the late '40s, he joined Atlantic Records, working as composer, arranger, producer ,and A&R man, writing such influential songs as "Money Honey," (11 weeks at number 1 for the Drifters in 1953), and "Soul On Fire." He also arranged Big Joe Turner’s groundbreaking 1954 hit "Shake, Rattle And Roll."
