A British-born, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Johnny Ashby makes hooky pop/rock with an undercurrent of romantic introspection. Along with his work as a member of the duo Kid Giant, Ashby garnered attention with his 2015 debut EP, Cannonball Days, and 2020 follow-up, Born Again.
Born in London, Ashby became interested in music at a young age while listening to his dad's mixtape collection. He picked up the guitar and by his teens was playing in various bands. After graduating college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music career. In 2015, he released his debut EP, Cannonball Days, which garnered attention on streaming platforms. Along with performing, he worked as a teacher in Santa Monica. There, he befriended fellow songwriter Carl Thompson and formed the duo Kid Giant. Together, they licensed songs to a bevy of TV shows, including Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Elementary, and many others. They also released two self-produced EPs. In 2020, Ashby returned with another solo EP, Born Again, which featured collaborations with members of the band Grizfolk. ~ Matt Collar
