About Ruby Turner
Genre
R&B/Soul
Jamaican actress/singer, Ruby Turner moved to England in 1967, appearing in numerous plays and musicals before electing to concentrate on her singing. After a low-key start she joined Culture Club on their world tour. After working with UB40 and Bryan Ferry, Turner released her 1986 debut album, Women Hold Up Half The Sky, for Jive Records. Produced by Jonathan Butler, the album included the UK Top 30 single, ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’. Although 1990’s Paradise, or 1991’s The Other Side, struggled in the UK, the title-track of the latter became a US R&B chart-topper. After moving to M&G Records for Restless Moods (1994), she returned to the UK Top 40 with ‘Stay With Me Baby’. Turner subsequently made her professional stage debut in Carmen Jones in the late-80s.
Ruby Turner has also released music as a member of Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and Winjama.
