Artist Biography
Nicknamed the "Singing Bobby" after joining the Royal Ulster Constabulary in the late 1930s, Josef Locke became a local celebrity in the early 1940s and by the dawn of the '50s was one of the U.K.'s most popular balladeers. He toured the U.K. variety circuit and made frequent television appearances. And while Locke was well versed in everything from Irish ballads to operettas to Italian love songs, he will forever be associated with his 1947 smash "Hear My Song, Violetta."
