About Khia
Known for her explicit 2002 hit “My Neck, My Back (Lick It),” no-nonsense lyricist Khia was among the trailblazing early-2000s female rappers who challenged the notion that hip-hop belonged to men.
• Though Khia grew up singing and writing lyrics, her musical journey came to a temporary halt when she gave birth to a daughter in 1991.
• After the 1992 birth of her son Rashawn, Khia began bartending at a Tampa club, where she met DJs and local artists who inspired her to make music.
• Her 2002 debut album, Thug Misses, features the platinum-certified single “My Neck, My Back (Lick It).” The LP reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart.
• Khia returned with her 2006 Gangstress, known for its iconic cover art—a collage of Khia’s mugshots from arrests between 1994 and 1999.
• Also in 2006, Khia also appeared on Janet Jackson’s “So Excited,” which went #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.
• In 2018, Khia surprised fans with Twerkanomics, a blend of notable older hits and fresh new music.
