Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Sitting in the car with my mom, just home from school when the radio premiered Snoop's Drop it like It’s Hot. I was fixated. It was the first time I remember wanting to find out why I loved a piece of music so much.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? N.E.R.D, In Search Of... OutKast, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below Youssou N'Dour, The Best of Youssou N'Dour I played his album Eyes Open by N'Dour into the ground as a kid. N.E.R.D. blew my mind while learning how to drum. Something about The Love Below that really has stuck with me through the years. It’s as close to a perfect album as I think it gets.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Stay a While (feat. Clynton Cox)” I’ve really come to love my song Stay A While. It’s a song I wrote for my mom and I’m really proud of what it ended up being. I kinda wanted it to sound like a computer made a country song. We got it in the ballpark I think lol.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Getting to work with Childish Gambino on 3.15.20 was a highlight for me - I got to work with some of the most brilliant minds I’ve ever met. It felt bigger than whatever music we were making - like we wanted to make something new for people like us.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? This premise is insane to me. My job as an artist is to constantly move the goal post & try to figure out what’s going to excite me next. If I had to choose- making something so good that my girl knows her investment in this journey paid off.
