Banda el Limón came together in Mazatlán, Mexico in early 1965, specializing in brassy banda music; eventually, they ended up splitting into two separate groups, although neither Salvador Lizárraga nor René Camacho gave up the original name (resulting in much confusion down the line). Both groups benefitted from the banda boom of the '90s, becoming ultra-famous in the regional Mexican market. Camacho's band was more successful, although Lizárraga also had his share of hits on Mexican radio stations. In 2007, Lizárraga turned 75, and 2008 marked the 43rd anniversary of the first Banda el Limón lineup. ~ Alex Henderson
