In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
A memory of mine is hearing my Dad perform in church for the first time. It was clear how much passion he had through his voice, piano playing, and smile on his face at the end. I view that moment as a turning point for my involvement with music.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
J.J. Johnson, Origins: The Savoy Sessions
Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
Tyler, The Creator, IGOR
To Pimp A Butterfly taught me the power of using other genres in your music, The Savoy Sessions taught me how the trombone is supposed to sound, and Igor taught me the power of musical storytelling. All of these played factors in my album's creation.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Performing with Anat Cohen in the University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One was a moment I'll never forget. That show was a clinic in loving the music you play and embracing how powerful music is. I'll listen to that concert when I need inspiration.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
As long as I stay true to myself, life can take me anywhere. In the meantime, why not keep making music and spreading the love!
