About Life On Venus
Artist Biography
Russian group Life on Venus mix feelings of joy and melancholy into their deep, engrossing brand of shoegaze. Releases such as 2019's Odes to the Void contain deep waves of shimmering guitar and lyrics about overcoming fear of the unknown.
The band was founded in 2015 by students at Moscow State University. Initially a quartet, they started rehearsing in dorms and small studios, and developed their hazy, bittersweet dream pop sound. A two-song demo titled Distant Lights was self-released in March 2016, and the group began to receive notice from shoegaze-centric blogs. By the time Life on Venus recorded their first full-length, they had expanded to a quintet, consisting of Dima (guitar/vocals), Sergey (guitar), Marat (bass), Aline (vocals), and Gulya (drums). The band's debut album, Encounters, was digitally released in March 2017, and was issued on CD by Shelflife the following August. An EP titled Departure previewed the group's second album, Odes to the Void, which appeared in 2019, and was issued on vinyl a year later. The EP Live at Flanger Studio and "It's Alright" were both released in 2020. ~ Paul Simpson
