Portland, Oregon quartet Lord Dying play a signature brand of sludge, doom, and even thrash. Founded in 2010 amid a fertile underground scene, the band released a self-titled demo EP that quickly sold out when they began sharing local stages with Unsane, Red Fang, Yob, and Valient Thorr. A 2012 live EP simply titled Fall Tour attracted the attention of Relapse, and their multi-album deal with the label commenced with 2013's Summon the Faithless. Poisoned Altars followed in 2015. With 2019's Mysterium Tremendum, they revealed an unwillingness to compromise and an abiding focus on sonic and musical evolution. Due to years of touring and the global shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lord Dying didn't release another album until 2024's Clandestine Transcendence.
