Mal Blum is a New York singer/songwriter whose wry, confessional storytelling bends through a shifting mix of upbeat punk, acoustic folk, and fully fledged indie rock. Early albums like 2008's Goodnight Sugarpop and 2010's Every Time You Go Somewhere favored a playful folk-punk. They plugged in and added accompanists for a livelier indie/alt-rock blend by 2015's You Look a Lot Like Me and the even more rollicking Pity Boy, released in 2019. While continuing to explore topics like gender, infatuation, truth, and culture and society, Blum made their Get Better Records debut with 2025's The Villain.
