Artist Biography
Mandy Morton is a singer, songwriter, presenter, and author who first made her name as part of the British folk-rock boom of the 1970s. She led the Cambridge-based group Spriguns through a pair of mid-'70s albums for the Decca label before going independent in 1978. After following in the footsteps of Steeleye Span, Spriguns developed their own unique sound around Morton's mix of progressive songwriting and imaginative adaptations of traditional folk music. After 1978's Magic Lady, she moved forward as a solo artist and found an enthusiastic audience in Scandinavia, where she toured frequently into the mid '80s. She released two more solo albums before forging a career as a radio presenter for the BBC. Morton later focused on her writing and in 2014 published the first volume in a successful series of detective novels. In 2022, her entire music output was made available via the box set After the Storm: Complete Recordings.
