Australian singer-songwriter and producer Chet Faker is exalted in both electronic and indie circles for fusing R&B with laidback electronica—most famously on “Drop The Game” and his breakthrough cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.” • Chet Faker is Nicholas Murphy, a longtime jazz fan whose stage name pays homage to legendary trumpeter and singer Chet Baker. • His 2012 debut EP, Thinking In Textures, features a version “No Diggity” that was used in a popular beer commercial. • He burst onto the mainstream scene with the three-track 2013 EP Lockjaw, a collaboration with fellow Aussie electronic artist Flume. The single “Drop the Game,” a landmark in the mid-2010s bass-inflected electronica era, went platinum in Australia and earned an ARIA nomination for Best Dance Release of the Year. • Faker’s debut LP, Built On Glass, hit No. 1 on the Australian charts and yielded the Top 10 single “Talk Is Cheap.” • He returned to the Top 10 in 2015 with “The Trouble With Us,” off the EP Work, a collaboration with London DJ and producer Marcus Marr. • In 2016, he began releasing music under his real name, but he switched back to Chet Faker with the 2020 single “Low.”
