The members of Mars Electric got together in 1996 in Birmingham, AL, under the name Wish. The group, inspired by arena rock performers, is a vehicle for the songs of lead singer and guitarist Jacob Bunton, who is supported by guitarist Chris Simmons, bass player Carl Hopper, and drummer Matt Finn. They became the first new band signed to A&R executive John Kalodner's Portrait label, a part of Columbia Records, and released their debut album, Beautiful Something, in late February 2000. ~ William Ruhlmann
