Aggressive and intense yet consistently melodic, Matchless is an alternative rock band that was formed in Seattle in 1997. The half-female, half-male foursome includes two ex-members of the band 66 Saints: lead vocalist/bassist Molly Kenny and drummer Kat Carlisle. When they were with 66 Saints, Kenny and Carlisle felt creatively stifled -- so in 1997, they left that band to form a band of their own. After auditioning various musicians, Kenny and Carlisle ended up hiring lead vocalist/guitarist Stuart McAteer and lead guitarist Kevin Bishop. With the Kenny/Carlisle/McAteer/Bishop lineup in place, Matchless developed a small local following playing the Seattle scene. The quartet had only been together a few months when it recorded a self-titled demo EP; in 1998, its second EP, On the Surface and in the Deep, was released independently. Matchless' first full-length album came in 2000, when it produced You Shaped Curve with Stuart Hallerman. ~ Alex Henderson
