About Max Leone
Artist Biography
Singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Max Leone writes honest, vulnerable pop songs about longing and loneliness, taking influence from soul and acoustic rock as well as hip-hop and EDM production. He emerged in 2020, signing to the Darkroom label (home to Billie Eilish and Oliver Malcolm) and releasing several singles, including "Malleable."
Originally from Portland, Oregon, Max Leone first started taking guitar lessons when he was seven. Influenced by artists his parents listened to, such as Otis Redding and Nina Simone, as well as rappers like Kanye West and Kid Cudi, he began teaching himself production through online tutorials, in addition to playing in a jazz band in high school. He briefly attended the Berklee College of Music before moving to Los Angeles to pursue music full-time. After being in the city for nearly a year, he signed to Darkroom, and his debut single, "First Grade," produced by frequent collaborator Luke Niccoli, was released in early 2020. "Cautious," which similarly addressed themes of loneliness and isolation, appeared a month later. Subsequent singles "The Beach" (co-produced by Alexander 23) and "Malleable" received additional attention, and he rounded out the year with the song "5." ~ Paul Simpson
