About Meara O'Reilly
Meara O'Reilly is a sound artist and composer whose work ranges from concert compositions to museum installations and collaborations with major figures in popular music. She designs her own instruments and technologies, including the Rhythm Necklace, which uses geometric patterns to make rhythms. She has recorded albums and toured with bands Feathers and Brightblack Morning Light on vocals, guitar, harp, and instruments she fashioned herself. Since her student days at Hampshire College, O'Reilly has been fascinated by auditory perception, and that curiosity drove her interest in hocketing, which occurs when a single melodic line bounces among multiple voices. She released an album of hocket experiments in 2019, Hockets for Two Voices. After that album generated significant interest, O'Reilly wrote and took part in the recording of vocal arrangements involving hocket technique on Fleet Foxes' Grammy-nominated 2020 album Shore.
