About Michi
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
My uncle gave me a toy guitar at 3. I immediately started sliding across the living room on my knees, launching off staircases, belting made up songs at the TV while MTV played. My parents thought it was a phase. It was not.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Melissa Etheridge, Melissa Etheridge
Tracy Chapman, Tracy Chapman
Melissa Etheridge, Tracy Chapman and Lauryn Hill raised me. Three women who wrote from pure truth, no filter, no apology. Everything I do as a songwriter traces back to those three voices.

“Short Story (feat. Dunkan)”
Short Story started as a line a girl said to me over drinks and I couldn't stop singing it. It's cheeky, unapologetic, and sounds exactly like who I am. That's why I love it.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Performing at Capital Pride in Washington D.Performing at Capital Pride in Washington D.C. for 250,000 people and opening for Miley Cyrus. Nine years on that stage. I built that one show at a time, no label, no budget. Just me and my guitar.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
Two things: a Grammy and a stage with Melissa Etheridge. She's the reason I picked up a guitar and never put it down.
