About Midas the Jagaban
Midas the Jagaban isn't just another pretty face—far from it. Underneath her omnipresent, colorful, and identity-obscuring balaclava ski masks, the self-protectively anonymous British Nigerian performer celebrates her Yoruban roots through a sophisticated take on Afrobeats. Born in South London in 1991, Midas renamed herself after her signature tag: “Midas touch, I got the rightest touch." She began turning beats into gold in 2020, releasing the party anthem "Come We Bill Ehh" and TikTok fave "Party With A Jagaban" ahead of her seven-track debut EP, Midas Touch. Drawing inspiration from Lagbaja, the flamboyantly masked Nigerian singer/saxophonist who emerged during the '90s, Midas metaphorically calls upon her ancestors. Yoruban and Nigerian Pidgin expressions pepper tracks such as the slinky amapiano groove of "Paigons" and the supervillain-celebrating banger "Harley2Joker." Working with Rexy, GuiltyBeatz, and Zino Milly, among other producers, Midas the Jagaban draws on the past to help us survive the present.
