Not to be confused with several bands using the same name, Midnight the man (aka John McDonald) began his career as the singer for Florida's famously silver-masked progressive metal band Crimson Glory, who spent much of the late '80s and early '90s playing second fiddle to the world conquering Queensrÿche, then quietly split when grunge sent metal packing. It would take almost a decade for the band to resurface, but when it was announced they'd be working with new singer Wade Black, Midnight proceeded to launch his solo career by way of a limited-edition, mostly acoustic EP called simply M. This was sold to fans from his own website, but five years later Midnight hooked up with Black Lotus Records and began collaborating with almost a dozen musicians on what would become his first proper solo album, Sakada. As was to be expected from his past exploits, the ambitious work found him dabbling in much the same atypical metal and hard rock of his former band, but with his once tentative interests in Eastern mysticism and musical forms turned up to 11. Midnight died in July of 2009 at the age of 47. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
Midnight has also released music as a member of Crimson Glory.
