Mitochondrion is a Canadian blackened death metal band from Victoria, British Columbia, formed in 2003. Known for their dense, intricate songcraft and brutal sound, they released their debut album, Archaeaeon (2008), which led to a deal with Profound Lore Records. After a series of lineup changes, they issued Parasignosis in 2011, which was praised for its complex arrangements. Following a long hiatus, they returned in 2024 with Vitriseptome, an 86-minute set of chaotic and relentlessly intense avant-garde metal that left no extreme sonic touchstone unturned.
