Artist Biography
One of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century, pianist and singer/songwriter Mose Allison offered a boogie woogie-cum-bebop playing style that was fresh and innovative. He excelled as a composer of highly original blues, swing, and jazz tunes that have been recorded by the Who, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, and dozens more. He began recording for Prestige with 1957's Back Country Suite. During the 1960s, he released ten albums for Atlantic that established his reputation, among them I Don't Worry About a Thing and I've Been Doin' Some Thinkin'. A road dog for decades, Allison often played more than 200 shows a year. Between 1982 and 2001, he recorded sporadically for Blue Note, issuing fine albums such as 1982's Middle Class White Boy, 1996's Gimcracks and Gewgaws, and 2001's two-volume The Mose Chronicles: Live in London.
In 2021, the U.K.'s Strawberry label released Complete Atlantic/Elektra Albums 1962-1983.
