The Finnish jazz quartet MP4 followed their award-winning live debut in 2002 with a series of studio albums beginning with Central Playa (2004). Founded in 2002, MP4 are comprised of Mikko Pettinen (trumpet, flügelhorn, vocals), Ville Huolman (acoustic bass), Toni Porthén (drums), and Tuomo Prättälä (Rhodes piano, synthesizer, vocals). The quartet made its live debut at the Getxo Jazz Group Competition in Spain in July 2002, winning both jury and audience awards for Best Group and Best Soloist (i.e., Pettinen). This award-winning debut live performance was later released as Jazz Getxo in 2003 by Hilargi Records. MP4's studio album debut, Central Playa, followed a year later. A second studio album, Follower, was released in 2007. ~ Jason Birchmeier
