About Next
The Minnesota R&B trio Next oozed sex appeal on their string of passionate late-’90s and early-’00s hits.
• The group formed in Minneapolis after brothers Terry and Raphael Brown met Robert Huggar through their uncle in 1992.
• The trio’s 1997 debut album, Rated Next, set the tone for their erotic declarations of love and lust.
• Their breakthrough came with the 1998 single "Too Close,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the all-genre Hot 100.
• Destiny’s Child featured Next on “If You Leave,” from their 1999 album The Writing’s On The Wall.
• Next’s 2000 sophomore album, Welcome II Nextasy, includes the single “Wifey,” which topped Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and cracked the Top 10 on the Hot 100.
• The group broke up following the release of their 2002 album The Next Episode, but they’ve reunited several times since. They returned in 2018 with the single “Want It.”
