Though Porter's name hardly ranks with the greats of the soul music tradition, he was responsible for producing one of the northern soul movement's most enduring classics. "Keep On Keeping On", released in 1971, featured production from Gabriel Mekler (a collaborator with Steppenwolf) and strings to sweeten its driving rhythm - exactly what was demanded by the notorious all-night dancers on the northern soul scene. Later, DJ Richard Searling persuaded Joy Division to reshape the song into "Interzone". The easiest access to this exclusive rarity these days is by way of the Golden Torch Story CD, released on Goldmine Records.
