Artist Biography
An excellent trombonist from Denmark, Ole "Fessor" Lindgreen has been an important bandleader in Scandinavia since 1968. Tired of playing in so many similar and predictable trad jazz ensembles, in 1968 he formed the Big City Band, an outfit that kept New Orleans and 1920's jazz as its base but has been open to swing, early r&b and even bop influences. Through the years the group has often collaborated with visiting and touring Americans including Alton Purnell, Champion Jack Dupree, Louis Metcalf, Happy Caldwell, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Bud Freeman, Benny Waters, Franz Jackson, Ralph Sutton, Snub Mosley, Sunnyland Slim, Budd Johnson, Carrie Smith, Earl Warren, Dicky Wells, Sammy Price, Doc Cheatham, Claude Williams, Gene "Mighty Flea" Connors, George Kelly, Al Casey and most notably Wild Bill Davison. With such fine sidemen (in the early days) as trumpeter Finn Otto Hansen and tenor-saxophonist Steen Vig Hansen, Fessor and his Big City Band have been together for over 30 years, recording quite frequently for Storyville. ~ Scott Yanow
